There’s no better way to discover the USA than by travelling along one of its most iconic roads.
 
The epitome of American driving holidays. Route 66, affectionately known as “The Mother Road”, takes you east to west, from Chicago to Santa Monica, Los Angeles. Do as the song says and “get your kicks on Route 66.”

Day 1
Arrive in Chicago

Chicago is the starting point for most Route 66 tours. Known as the “Windy City,” Chicago is home to one of America’s tallest buildings, legends such as Al Capone and his notorious gang, and countless jazz and blues clubs.

Day 2
Chicago

Kick off your Route 66 holiday by grabbing a slice of deep-dish pizza before venturing up the Willis Tower, or take to the streets for your very own walking tour along the shores of Lake Michigan.

Day 3
Chicago - Springfield, Illinois

Travel through prairies and farmland to reach the iconic Route 66 stop of Springfield – the former home of President Abraham Lincoln.

Day 4
Springfield, Illinois - St. Louis

Cross the mighty Mississippi River and continue to St. Louis, “Gateway to the West.”

Day 5
St. Louis - Springfield, Missouri

Make your way southwest through Route 66 Missouri to the birthplace of the Mother Road, the city of Springfield. Weren’t we just in Springfield? That was back in Illinois!

Day 6
Springfield, Missouri - Oklahoma City

Continue west along the Mother Road, you’ll pass through Joplin before skimming through a corner of the state of Kansas and into Oklahoma.

Day 7
Oklahoma City - Amarillo

Heading into the Texas Panhandle, the prairies of Oklahoma give way to a drier landscape. You’ll pass some awesome Route 66 museums along the way, which are packed with nostalgic Americana, classic cars and more.

Day 8
Amarillo - Santa Fe

On the way from Amarillo to Santa Fe, you’ll have the chance to visit some classic Route 66 holiday attractions. These include Cadillac Ranch, Midpoint Cafe and the Route 66 Auto Museum in Santa Rosa. You’ll finish the day off in Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Day 9
Santa Fe

Santa Fe lies along the path of the original Route 66 route. The Spanish-influenced old town square and Pueblo-style adobe architecture provide a setting that contrasts widely with the cities further east.

Day 10
Santa Fe - Albuquerque - Gallup

Today’s destination is Gallup, but first head south, down to Albuquerque, New Mexico’s largest city, home to a third of the state’s population. Albuquerque is the sprawling heart of New Mexico.

Day 11
Gallup - Flagstaff

Today takes you to the classic Route 66 stopover town of Flagstaff. Some of Arizona’s most striking Route 66 desert scenery lies between the New Mexico border and Flagstaff. Stop at the Petrified Forest National Park to see the different colours of rock layered on top of each other.

Day 12
Flagstaff

Spend your free day visiting the ultimate symbol of the Desert Southwest; the Grand Canyon. While the Grand Canyon isn’t technically on Route 66, it’s so close to Flagstaff that it would be a crime to pass it by!

Day 13
Flagstaff - Las Vegas

Continue your Route 66 adventure to Sin City – Las Vegas via Hoover Dam. The dusty desert surrounds you as you make your way to Las Vegas, whose outline you can see on the horizon for miles as you approach.

Day 14
Las Vegas

The bright lights of Las Vegas offer glitz, glamour, gambling, sparkles and campaign – Las Vegas is like no other city on earth. Spend a full day at leisure exploring the spectacle that is Las Vegas.

Day 15
Las Vegas - Santa Monica

Today, depart the man-made oasis of Las Vegas and cross the Mojave Desert and the San Bernardino Mountains en route to the final destination on Route 66: Santa Monica in Los Angeles.

Day 16
Santa Monica & Los Angeles

Enjoy a full day at leisure exploring California’s largest city, Los Angeles, the “City of Angels”. There’s something for everyone here, whether it’s hiking in the Hollywood Hills, browsing boutique shops in Beverly Hills, visiting working film and television studios or simply relaxing on Santa Monica beach.

Day 17
Depart Santa Monica & Los Angeles

Finish off your sightseeing today before heading to the airport for your flight home.
